Jungle Trekking Batu Katak

Let’s be clear:

Batu Katak isn’t a zoo or a staged wildlife show. When you trek with us, you’re stepping directly into the heart of the Sumatran rainforest. This is the ancient territory of wild animals, and we are strictly guests in their home.

Because the wild orangutans and exotic wildlife here aren’t “humanized,” nothing is guaranteed. Some days the canopy is buzzing; other days, the jungle keeps its secrets. That’s the beauty of a truly ethical jungle trek.

Details about the trek
  • Small group sizes (maximum 6 guests)
  • Fruit breaks & Lunches & Dinner included

Day 1: Your journey begins at 9:00 AM. We leave the village behind, passing through local plantations before entering the primary rainforest. We’ll spend 6–7 hours tracking wildlife, learning about medicinal plants, and reading “jungle signs.” In the afternoon, we set up camp by the crystal-clear Berkail River.

Day 2: Wake up to the “Jungle Alarm”—the haunting calls of Siamang Gibbons. After a fresh jungle breakfast, we explore nearby waterfalls or trek a different route to spot more wildlife. We finish the adventure with an adrenaline-pumping River Tubing ride back to the village.

Itinerary

Day 1: Similar to the 2-day trek, we establish our presence in the forest and reach our first riverside camp.

Day 2: We push deeper into the interior. This day is dedicated to silent tracking. By moving quietly, we increase our chances of seeing wild orangutans, Thomas Leaf monkeys, and hornbills. We move to a second, more remote campsite.

Day 3: We start the morning by discovering a hidden water cave, exploring its limestone chambers and unique ecosystem. If the season is right and the Amorphophallus titanum (the giant Corpse Flower) is blooming, we will also take the opportunity to witness this rare botanical wonder. After a final jungle lunch, we float back to civilization via traditional jungle raft (tubing).

Day 1: We begin our journey by entering the primary rainforest, tracking wildlife and learning the “language” of the jungle. We’ll set up our first camp by the Berkail River.

Day 3: We explore the hidden water caves—limestone wonders tucked away in the deep forest. If the season is right and the Amorphophallus titanum (the giant Corpse Flower) is blooming, we will trek to see this rare prehistoric wonder. We spend the night at our third unique riverside location.

Day 4: After a final morning immersed in the jungle sounds, we reach a “secret” waterfall for a private swim. Following a fresh jungle lunch, we float back to civilization via traditional jungle raft (tubing).

Itinerary

Because this is a high-level adventure, the route is not set in stone. The path we take depends entirely on your goals, the season, and how long you choose to stay under the canopy.

  • Custom Routes: This trek is a deeper experience that can start in different locations and end in Batu Katak, or we can start in the village and trek deep into the Gunung Leuser interior before looping back.
  • The “Deep” Advantage: With 5 to 10 days, we aren’t just visitors; we are residents of the forest. This length of time allows us to reach the most remote water caves, untouched secret waterfalls, and primary forest zones where wildlife has had almost no human contact.
  • Wildlife & Flora: You have the maximum chance to spot wild orangutans, elusive Siamang gibbons, and various species of hornbills. If the Amorphophallus titanum or Rafflesia are blooming in the deep interior, we will adjust our course to find them.
Price
  • The final price of your adventure depends on how many days you wish to trek and how many people are in your group. Whether you are a solo explorer or traveling with a team, we want to ensure you get the most authentic experience possible.
