Your Bukit Lawang Adventure Day-By-Day

Welcome to North Sumatra! Your journey officially kicks off the moment you land or meet us at your hotel. Your private driver will welcome you in a comfortable, air-conditioned vehicle for a relaxing, scenic drive past bustling local towns, roadside fruit stands, and beautiful rural landscapes. By late afternoon, you’ll reach the peaceful jungle village of Bukit Lawang. Check into your riverside accommodation, unwind on your veranda, and fall asleep to the soothing, natural rhythm of the Bohorok River.

Fuel up with a great breakfast before meeting your local guiding team at 9:00 AM to head straight into the pristine rainforest of Gunung Leuser National Park. We’ll hike beneath the dense canopy, tracking wild orangutans, curious Thomas’s leaf monkeys, gibbons, and tropical birds. Our treks strictly follow ethical wildlife observation principles—we maintain a safe, respectful distance and never feed or disturb the animals. After enjoying a fresh jungle picnic, we’ll arrive at our quiet riverside campsite by late afternoon. Relax by the crystal-clear water while your camp cook prepares a fantastic, authentic Indonesian dinner over the open fire.

Wake up early to the unforgettable sounds of rainforest birds and echoing gibbon calls. After a warm camp breakfast, you can take a refreshing morning swim in the river or explore a hidden waterfall close by. Around midday, we’ll gear up for a classic local highlight: an exciting, traditional river-tubing ride down the rapids right back to the village. Check back into your comfortable lodge and enjoy a completely relaxed afternoon to rest, browse the local shops, or enjoy a cold drink by the river.

Today connects you deeply with both our local community and vital regional conservation efforts. After breakfast, we travel down quiet countryside roads and through vibrant rice fields framed by stunning mountain backdrops to observe traditional daily life, learning how local families craft homemade tofu and weave roofing materials.

Next, we pay a special visit to our partners at Sumeco, an incredible local organization dedicated to fighting illegal wildlife trafficking. You’ll get a firsthand look at their rescue facility, meet the dedicated team, and see the rescued animals currently undergoing rehabilitation as they are prepared for a safe release back into their natural rainforest home. We’ll conclude this unforgettable day sharing a fresh, cold coconut water before heading back to the village for your final relaxing evening.

After a final breakfast at your lodge, our private driver will ensure you travel comfortably and seamlessly to your next destination.

While standard package logistics include your private transfer directly back to Medan city or Kualanamu International Airport, you can easily choose to keep exploring the wonders of North Sumatra:

  • 🌋 Berastagi Highlands – Famous for its refreshing mountain climate, vibrant fruit markets, and dramatic active volcano vistas. (Additional flat rate: 20 Euro per vehicle)

  • 🌊 Lake Toba (Samosir Island) – Journey down to the largest volcanic crater lake on Earth for a peaceful lakeside escape. (Additional flat rate: 40 Euro per vehicle)

> Please note: These add-on rates are calculated per private vehicle, not per person, keeping your custom extensions completely transparent and affordable.
