From Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK): This is the main domestic gateway, running dozens of non-stop flights to Medan every single day via Garuda Indonesia, Super Air Jet, Lion Air, Citilink, or Batik Air.
From Halim Perdanakusuma Airport (HLP): A smaller, very convenient city airport running roughly 3 direct flights a day to Medan via Citilink and Batik Air.

From Medan Airport: Take an ALS Bus to Binjai (60K IDR). Then, switch to a small orange public bus to Bukit Lawang (30K IDR).
From a Medan Hotel: Take a local taxi to Pinang Baris Station – Mawar Bakery. From there, you can catch a direct local minibus straight to the Bukit Lawang bus terminal (typically around 50K IDR, ~3 hours).
Good to know: The last yellow bus leaves Binjai station around 18:00 (6:00 PM).
